Member of staff, Mary Ashton, recalls the opening of the hospital. At the time she was attending Meole Brace School, opposite the hospital. Mary recalls that there was great speculation about the new hospital and who would be visiting. Names such as Tom Jones, Cathy Kirby and Frank Ifield had the playground buzzing with excitement about the visitors that they may catch a glimpse of.

Mike Haffenden, Hospital Director said:
"It is a very proud day for us here at Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital. The 50thAnniversary of the hospital opening represents a milestone in the history of Nuffield Health and the community it serves. Today, the high quality of care and the friendly atmosphere are comparable to the days when the doors first opened, but the procedures and services that we can now offer, including MRI Scans, digital imaging and key-hole surgery, illustrate how far healthcare has progressed in 50 years."

Today the hospital is well equipped with en-suite bedrooms, three operating theatres, an Endoscopy Suite and a very busy Out-patients’department which includes physiotherapy and diagnostic imaging.
