Heart and lung facilities

The Oxford Private Heart and Lung Centre has specialised cardiac and thoracic operating theatres, a cardiac catheterisation (angiography) suite and a seven bed, intensive care unit. We offer the full range of diagnostic tests and treatments  by some of the UK's most distinguished cardiologists, cardiac and thoracic surgeons, all of whom hold senior positions at the adjacent John Radcliffe Hospital part of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust.

We provide a full range of the latest imaging and diagnostic technology, to meet every patient's individual needs. This includes state of the art cardiac and thoracic CT, MRI and a range of high specification ultrasound scanners. We have recently updated our CT scanners and invested in a Toshiba Aquilion, one of the most advanced CT scanners in use today.

The patient journey

To see a Consultant at Oxford, The Manor Hospital, you will require a referral from your GP which helps us identify the best consultants suited to your requirements. Once the Consultant has been selected, the medical secretary will contact you to arrange a suitable appointment as quickly as possible.


The typical customer journey at Nuffield Health, The Manor Hospital, Oxford will start with you appointment to meet the Consultant. Upon arrival at the hospital, you will be greeted and registered by a member of our Front of House team, who will confirm vital contact information including an authorisation of a credit or debit card which acts as a guarantee should there be any excess on private medical insurance or if you are a self-funding customer.

Once registered you will be directed to the lounge where you can relax and help yourself to complimentary refreshment. Your Consultant will collect you from the lounge and escort you to his consulting room where he will discuss your requirements and what treatment plan he recommends. Should you require any tests or imaging scan, this can often be accommodated at the time of your appointment.


A pre-assessment is required if you are to undergo a procedure and is designed to identify that you are medically fit for the surgery. This is also the time for you to ask any questions, raise concerns and ensure you are fully informed prior to committing to the procedure.

Your pre-assessment appointment will be arranged by our Bookings & Admissions Team once they have received the required paperwork from your Consultant. On occasions, a pre-admissions appointment may take place on the day of your consultation but is dependent on the procedure that you are to undergo.

Day of Admission

Our Bookings & Admissions Team will arrange the date for your procedure and forward you written confirmation of your admission time and likely length of stay. Prior to your procedure authorisation is required from your insurance company or full payment of all charges (if paying for yourself) must be received.

On the day of your admission, our Front of House team will register you confirming all authorisation/payments have been received. You will be directed to the ward where our Admissions Administrator will greet you and escort you to your private room. Once you have been familiarised with your room and the facilities available, a member of our clinical team will prepare you for your procedure.

Your stay with us

Your comfort is paramount to us and we will endeavour to make you as comfortable as possible and provide you with a relaxed environment in which to recuperate. Your meals are prepared onsite using fresh produce  and you will have a daily menu from which to make your selection. We are happy to cater for any dietary requirements and request this information at the time of your pre-assessment. All of our private rooms are en-suite and have access to free Wi-fi, telephone and flat screen television with an integrated radio. Use of mobile phones is permitted in your room.

Visitors are welcome during the hours of 9am to 9pm and should they wish to join you during meal service, additional meals can be ordered (an additional charge is payable).

Your discharge

You will be kept informed during your stay and once your discharge has been agreed, you will be presented with our 'Going Home' booklet. This contains useful information regarding wound care, pain relief and medication advice. Should you have any concerns in the days following your discharge you will be able to call the ward for further advice. Your consultant's secretary will make contact with you to arrange any follow up appointments and our physiotherapy team will be in contact should this be appropriate for your procedure.

Paying for tests and treatments

You can pay for your own treatment directly at The Manor Hospital. You may choose to apply for a personal medical loan (available subject to status). If you have private medical insurance, we can liaise with your provider.
