Nuneaton Nursery, Baby Room
At our Nuneaton Nursery, the Baby Room offers expert child care for little kids aged between 3 months and 2 years.
Welcome to our Baby Room, Nuneaton
In our babies area the children are aged between 3 months and 24 months. As your child's confidence and independence develops, they then will have trial sessions in our Toddlers Room, which cares for our 2 to 3 year old children. We work closely with this area so that your child is familiar with all the staff and the children, thus making the transition a lot easier.
The learning environment for under 2 years
The learning environment creates opportunities for children to develop basic and complex skills and to practice them through a variety of activities. The play environment is very much child led and children are encouraged to select toys and activities freely.
All children are encouraged to respect the learning environment and to keep it safe, clean and tidy. Children help to put toys away after play sessions and before lunch and are encouraged to feel a part of the decision making process regarding their play.
The room is:
- Large and spacious, designed with under 2 year olds in mind
- Equipment and resources that promote discovery as well as encourage development and sustain curiosity
- A cosy area for children to rest and nap if needed
- Separate sleep room.
The nursery operates a keyworker system. The system ensures that every child has a named keyworker who will be responsible for the planning and observation of your child’s learning.
Before your baby joins us we offer a settling in period, this usually lasts for 2 - 4 weeks. During these trial sessions you and your child can come in and meet our staff and the other children, becoming familiar with the surrounding. If you need more time settling in we are happy to oblige.
The trail sessions are the ideal time to discuss your baby’s routine, likes and dislikes and to enable us to discuss the care routine for your child, e.g. how they sleep, if they have a comforter etc.
Also at this time we would ask you to return any personal registration forms to our nursery manager Charlie or Deputy Sian. This is to ensure we have all the correct information before you leave your baby with us for the first time.
Your child's first day at our Nuneaton Nursery
On your first day, you'll need to bring with you:
- A pack of nappies
- Baby wipes (if used)
- Creams for nappy time
- Spare clothes
- Milk and bottles, (labelled with your child’s name please)
- A sun hat and sun cream for the warmer months
- Care plan.
As your baby starts weaning we will work alongside you to help maintain your baby’s routine. All foods are prepared by our housekeeper/cook, but if you do wish to bring your own food during the initial weaning stage that is fine too. We will blend all the food depending on the children’s stage of weaning. We're happy to talk to parents / carers about individual diets/and allergies.
Each baby has a clean cot sheet, daily. The sheets are washed to stop the spread of infection. Sleep areas are monitored up to a maximum of every 10 minutes. The checks are recorded on a sleep chart.
Under Ofsted regulations we are only allowed to administer medicine that has been prescribed by a doctor. If your child needs prescribed medicine you'll be asked to fill in a medicine form giving instruction on dosage, time upon arrival at the nursery each day. You will be asked to sign a form at the end of the day so that you have the correct information about your child’s medication.
We can administer Calpol in an emergency, but only with prior written consent from parents. We only give Calpol if your child has a high temperature and we have contacted you by telephone to request your verbal permission. We can only give one dose of Calpol per day. If your child continues to run a high temperature we will endeavour to reduce it by cooling the child with damp cloths and removal of clothes. If this does not work we will request that you collect your child from nursery and seek medical assistance. In extreme medical circumstances or if we cannot make contact with you or the recorded emergency contact person we will call for an ambulance, (although thankfully this is extremely rare).
During your child’s time at nursery, should your child have an accident it will be dealt with by our trained first-aiders. All details of the accident will be recorded on a paper form and electronically. You will be asked to sign the completed form when you collect your child.
Each child has their own learning journal in which their key person will record how your child is developing and progressing. This is done through observations and assessment of their play. By observing your child we can use this information to update our future planning and ensure that all your child’s individual targets are being achieved.
Each observation and assessment made on your child is recorded in their learning journey profile. You're welcome to access your child’s profile at any time, and we share the file with you three times a year at parent’s evening.
We hope this information has been helpful, but should there by anything else you need to know please feel free to contact us and we'll be happy to help!
