After general training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Professor McVeigh spent three years as a clinical Research Fellow with Professor Lord Winston at the Hammersmith Hospital in London. His clinical research at the time was around the effect of Stress on Fertility.
After this research post Professor McVeigh completed the Sub Speciality Training program in Reproductive Medicine in Oxford and on completion was appointed to staff at University of Oxford in 1999 and as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
Professor McVeigh lead on the development and establishment of the surgical endometriosis service developing minimal assess (key hole) surgery in gynaecology in Oxford and was responsible for training in this area.
Prof McVeigh was the and was also Medical Directors and Person Responsible for the IVF centre (Oxford Fertility Unit).
Professor McVeigh specialises in Reproductive Endocrinology, Reproductive Surgery, Infertility, assisted conception and fertility preservation.
