Mr Howells has been qualified as a doctor for 25 years and has worked in his area of specialist interest (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) for most of his career. He received widespread exposure to obstetrics and gynaecology having worked in a number of different units including district general hospitals, tertiary referral centres and teaching hospitals. He has also worked as a Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist for 10 years.

  • Completed post-graduate exams Edinburgh Fellowship in Gynaecological Surgery (1994), MRCOG (1995), awarded an MD for research thesis (2000)
  • CCST in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (2002)
  • Completed Subspecialty training in Gynaecological Oncology in 2002 at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff
  • Extensive surgical experience
  • Over 3000 major surgical procedures for Gynaecological conditions
  • Over 2000 major surgical procedures for Gynaecological cancer
  • 38 exenterative operations including Colorectal & Urological procedures
  • Lead Colposcopist at Cardiff & Vale University Health Board from 2002-2013
  • Lead clinician for Gynaecological Cancer at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport from 2003-2009
