About

Mr Johan Keller is a Consultant Eye Surgeon specialising in retinal diseases and cataract surgery. He looks after patients with vascular and degenerative retinal diseases, and carries out over 250 retinal operations yearly. He also operates on over 350 patients with cataracts each year, and leads the theatre cataract productivity group for the NHS hospital.

Mr Keller has a special interest in patient safety and quality assurance and is the clinical governance officer for the Bristol Eye Hospital. Besides the complexities and technical aspects of eye disease, he places special emphasis on a warm bedside manner, and good communication with patients and relatives.

He has worked in all areas of ophthalmology since 2004, developing a solid base of knowledge and skills. He underwent the prestigious Sydney Eye Hospital and Bristol Eye Hospital training fellowships in vitreo-retinal surgery. He trained in general ophthalmology in the Midlands, the South of England and Barcelona, Spain, with further short stays in Lausanne, Switzerland and the Aravind Eye Care System in Madurai, India. Within the Eye Hospital, Mr Keller trains two senior surgeons each year who go on to become consultants in their own right.
