Since graduating in 1995 Mr Lee has gained a broad spectrum of experience in both Vascular and General Surgery. He was exposed to endovascular aortic reconstruction (EVAR) during its infancy and has trained in this field as it has developed. He has gained extensive experience in planning and application in this area as well as the techniques of angioplasty, stenting and thrombolysis. He has extensive exposure to lower limb arterial reconstruction surgery, open aortic and iliac surgery, renal access surgery and venous surgery. He also has extensive experience in emergency vascular surgery and trauma surgery which was further reinforced working at the vascular unit at The Centre of Defence Medicine, Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham. Here he also lectured on and helped organise the “Selly Oak National fem-distal course”.
During his Specialist Registrar years Mr Lee also gained broad general surgical experience, with speciality experience in colorectal surgery and breast surgery. In addition he trained in District General Hospital paediatric surgery as well as having a six month secondment as a dedicated paediatric surgical Specialist Registrar in a tertiary specialist paediatric centre, namely the Birmingham Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Lee enjoys spending his spare time with his wife and two young daughters. Walking around the local coastline is a particularly pleasurable pastime. He also enjoys bicycle riding. He really enjoys DIY and will turn his hand to almost anything from carpentry to building. He also finds gardening both relaxing and rewarding.

Mr Lee recruits to the IMPROVE and CLASS trials. His MD research was in the area of carotid disease, attempting to identify high risk asymptomatic carotid stenosis. For this work he won a £50000 grant from the University Hospital Birmingham Charities and the support of the Wellcome Trust, both by competitive peer review.
He was an honorary fellow of the University of Birmingham, department of Medical Sciences and a data collector enrolling volunteers for the national EVAR 1&2 studies helping model modern day EVAR selection criteria.
Mr Lee conducted a study into the management of the incidental finding of internal carotid artery occlusion at planned carotid endarterectomy amongst the vascular surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland and presented the results at the 40th Congress of the European Society for Surgical Research and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Quincentenary Congress.
He was a founder member in development of “The West Midlands Research Collaborative” which is a research group consisting of Specialist Registrars within the West Midlands region, conducting multicentre trials within the region and nationally using its members to coordinate studies at the individual hospitals in which they work, enabling research networks to be constructed.
