Mr Aylott qualified as a doctor in 1998 and completed Higher Surgical Training in Bristol with internationally recognised spine fellowships in Nottingham, Auckland (New Zealand), and Bristol. He is also uniquely qualified with a degree in Mechanical and Materials Engineering from Nottingham University and has a Doctorate in motion preserving technologies in the spine.
Appointed to the Gloucestershire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in June 2010, he led the development of an integrated Spinal Service in Gloucestershire and the surrounding counties, implementing new pathways, multidisciplinary team working, clinical governance and training across the county.
Since 2016 Mr Aylott has focused on working in close partnership with other medical practitioners to ensuring correct diagnose and timely treatment. Thorough history taking, appropriate imaging and discussion leads to robust treatment plans, which range from medication, exercise therapy, injections and where necessary surgery.
Mr Aylott sees most spinal pathologies including spondylolisthesis, disc herniation, spinal stenosis, spinal injuries, tumours, osteoporotic fractures, infections and spinal deformity. He uses fusion and non-fusion technologies such as disc replacement. He can offer percutaneous solutions (eg.kyphoplasty) and minimally invasive surgery where appropriate. He offers a sensible approach to spinal problems based on sound decision making.

Mr Aylott has a specialist interest in the management of degenerative scoliosis in the spine. This is severe degeneration in the lower back leading to the spine collapsing (scoliotic collapse) causing back pain and leg symptoms due to nerve entrapment (stenosis).
