Profile

Mr Tapp qualified from Kings College Hospital and then trained in London; firstly in Medicine and then in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with posts at the Hammersmith Hospital, Kings College Hospital and St Georges Hospital. A 2 year stint in research enhanced his knowledge of the scientific principles behind modern medicine and taught him how to lead research.

He was appointed to The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and then to his current trust as a General Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a remit to run the Urogynaecology service.

At the same time Mr Tapp commenced private practice in the Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital and the Apley clinic at the Princes Royal Hospital. His practice has continuously developed as he has introduced new surgical treatments to the county both within his private and NHS practice.

Mr Tapp has a strong belief in ensuring a joint understanding of symptoms and physical findings that may cause a patient to have diseaseHe has extensive endoscopic skills to supplement Ultra Sound and MRI imaging to come to a diagnosis and thereby a holistic approach to treatment.

Treatments in Gynaecology will often involve surgery and Mr Tapp has a wealth of surgical experience in his 22 years as a practicing consultant. He is also highly conversant with the limitations and risks that surgery may offer. He has particular skills in the surgical treatments of period and bleeding problems, pelvic masses, genital prolapse, and problems of urinary function.

As well as developing himself as a surgeon and physician, Mr Tapp is involved in the provision of Medical Care in the NHS as Medical Director for Women and Children Services at SATH. He is the Gynaecology Specialty representative at Nuffield Health.

Mr Tapp is responsible for the Higher Training Scheme in the West Midlands Deanery for Obstetric and Gynaecology trainees. He has lectured at local, regional, national and international meetings and runs surgical courses not only in the UK but also in the Middle East.

Other interests include pelvic floor surgery and minimal access surgery.
