Dr Dhanjal is a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire and Nuffield Health Warwickshire Hospital.
Dr Dhanjal is trained in all aspects of cardiac arrhythmia management including catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF), ventricular tachycardia (VT) and Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome, pacemaker / defibrillator implantation, cardiac resynchronisation therapy and left atrial appendage occlusion. His specialist interest is ablation of complex arrhythmias especially AF and life-threatening VT.
He qualified with Honours from Birmingham University in 2000 and was awarded his PhD in 2007 with research funded by the British Heart Foundation. He was awarded a clinical training lectureship at St Thomas’ Hospital, London where he completed his training in heart rhythm management (electrophysiology).
Dr Dhanjal was awarded a two year advanced electrophysiology fellowship at the renowned Henri Mondor Hospital in Paris and was appointed as a Consultant in 2014.
Dr Dhanjal has presented at several national and international conferences and published numerous scientific papers. He has received several awards and media recognition for his research and clinical work.

Research and development is a key cornerstone within the NHS framework to strive to develop international standards. Dr Dhanjal has been trained to a standard of a full-time Consultant Cardiac Electrophysiologist with an interest in complex ablation of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias. However, parallel to this he has maintained an active research profile publishing in high impact factor journals, winning international and national research awards and successfully obtaining research funding from the BHF.
Over the past few years he has developed an inter-hospital research project investigating mechanisms of ventricular tachycardia. This research project involves an international collaboration with Paris but importantly involves the entire cellular and molecular based research being performed at Warwick Medical School and the BHF research unit in South Wales. This research has been presented recently at the international Heart Rhythm Conference in San Francisco with the first publication within a high impact factor journal with exciting future prospects involving 'next generation gene sequencing' with the potential for the development of a molecular marker leading to a possible patent and pre-clinical trials. This work utilises a model of scar dependent VT which he developed with the support of Professor Nicolas Lellouche at Henri Mondor Creteil Hospital in Paris. The next phase of the project involves laser capture dissection microscopy of target cells which will subsequently undergo RNA extraction for quality assessment prior to the BHF grant submission requesting funding to perform genetic profiling. The Clinical Sciences Building (CSB) at UHCW houses a laser capture dissection microscope and Warwick Medical School has a proven track record for RNA profiling and next generation gene sequencing.
