Dr Sue Pavord is a Consultant Haematologist at Oxford University Hospitals and Associate Senior Lecturer in Medicine at St Edmund Hall. She qualified from the University of Leicester in 1988 and in her early career, spent time at McMaster University, Canada, researching Immune haematology. She has over 25 years’ experience in clinical and laboratory haematology.
Her specialist areas of interest are anaemia and iron management, immune haematology, inherited and acquired bleeding disorders, thrombosis and anticoagulation, thrombosis prevention and obstetric haematology.
She runs the Oxford iron clinic www.the-oxford-iron-clinic.co.uk at the Manor, assessing and treating iron deficiency in women and men of all ages including those with heart failure, cancer or preparing for surgery, and for women with heavy menstrual bleeding and pregnancy.
Dr Pavord is a pioneer in the field of obstetric haematology and co-founded the British Society for Haematology Obstetric Haematology Group in 2004, highlighting the importance of specialised input in the management of pregnant patients with haematological conditions. She co-chairs the UK group which brings together obstetricians, haematologists and anaesthetists in close collaboration to improve the wellbeing and safety of women in pregnancy. She is joint editor of The Obstetric Haematology Manual (Pavord Hunt), the leading textbook in the field and produced the national guidelines on anaemia in pregnancy and inherited bleeding disorders in pregnancy. Dr Pavord also runs an international course in obstetric haematology and is in demand as a national and international speaker.
She is a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists and Royal College of Physicians.

She is the mother of three children and enjoys dancing, music and fitness.
Dr Pavord's main focus of research is in the field of obstetric haematology, where she has been a pioneer in establishing this as a significant subspecialty; highlighting the importance of multidisciplinary care and attention to detail in the management of these complex patients.
She has produced national guidelines and set the UK standards in management of maternal anaemia and in the care of pregnant patients with inherited bleeding disorders.
Additionally she has published numerous articles and book chapters and co-edited the leading textbook of Obstetric Haematology- The Obstetric Hematology Manual.
