Dr Tibble was appointed as a Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist at Nuffield Hospital and Brighton and Sussex NHS Trust in 2002 having completed 5 years gastroenterology training within the Kent/Surrey Sussex Deanery and 3 years research at Kings College Hospital. He developed an interest in the training and education of trainees and is a qualified endoscopy trainer as well as Clinical Tutor responsible for post graduate education of trainees.

Dr Tibble is a Specialist Gastroenterologist and General Physician with an interest in all areas of intestinal disease as well as disease of the liver, pancreas and bile ducts. He is an experienced endoscopist performing regular diagnostic and therapeutic oesophago-gastro-duodenoscopy (OGD), endoscopy of bile ducts (ERCP) and colonoscopy and regularly audits colonscopy completion rates (caecal intubation rate > 95%). His focused areas of interest include dyspepsia (indigestion), alteration in bowel habit and investigation of abnormalities of liver blood tests.

Dr Tibble's current research areas of interest are in the use of non invasive markers of intestinal inflammation (faecal calprotectin) in order to both identify patients with conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and distinguish between patients with IBD and IBS.

He is working to develop the use of such tests within the primary care setting to help with referral pathways. In addition he is currently conducting a research project assessing the psychological side effects of drugs used for the treatment of Hepatitis C and the rheumatological manifestations of Hepatitis C.
