Dr Steed graduated in 2002 from Dundee University and remained in Scotland for her pre-STR training working in Dundee and Glasgow with a specialist focus in gastroenterology. She then undertook her MD in gastrointestinal research, before moving to the Midlands to complete her gastroenterology training. She has over 8 years of experience in gastroenterology.

Dr Steed's MD highlighted the manipulation of mucosal bacterial populations in inflammatory bowel disease, focusing on antibiotics in ulcerative colitis and synbiotic use in Crohn’s disease. She has contributed multiple publications in the fields of microbiota, inflammatory bowel disease, biliary disease and liver disease. She is a regular reviewer for several internationally published journals and continue to collaborate in local research interests.
