About

Dr Maniyar is a Consultant Neurologist at Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital.  He has a great deal of experience dealing with all types of neurological problems. He graduated from India and completed specialist neurology training in West Yorkshire Deanery in Leeds. His research was conducted at the prestigious University of California, San Francisco.

In the NHS, he conducts regular clinics for all types of neurological disorders as well care for patients admitted with acute neurological problems.  

He has newly started specialist headache clinics at Basildon Hospital in Essex and at The Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, London for patients affected by these common and often disabling symptoms.

His vision is to develop, establish and improvise on specialist headache services and to continue with research to find solutions for these common and disabling clinical conditions.

Research

He completed a research fellowship at the prestigious headache centre at UCSF, California, USA under professor Peter Goadsby. His research interest is functional imaging using modalities like positron emission tomography (PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).

His research in the premonitory phase of migraine has been widely acclaimed and for this he was recently awarded the Harold G. Wolff Lecture Award by the American Headache Society. He was recently interviewed by BBC Radio Essex about this research.

He was also heavily involved in a novel radio-ligand study using 11C- DHE. Most of his work is recent and under publication.

He has written reviews on functional imaging in migraine, case reports, comments and book chapters (oxford university press) and is frequently asked to review scientific articles on the topic of headache by international peer-reviewed journals.

His recent invited lectures include Royal Society of Medicine London, Migraine Trust, British Association for Society of Headaches (BASH) and International Headache Society.
