About

Dr McNab is an experienced cardiologist who cares for adult patients with all types of cardiac conditions. He has a special interest in coronary angiography and angioplasty, which he has performed at Ipswich and Papworth Hospitals since he was appointed as a consultant in 2006. He is also a member of the Papworth structural heart team that closes holes in the septum of the heart (PFO / ASDs) and around leaking valves.

Dr McNab trained in cardiology at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge and in Brisbane, Australia before undertaking sub-specialty training in angioplasty in Auckland, New Zealand. Additionally, he was awarded an MPhil in epidemiology and medical statistics from Cambridge University and spent three years researching laser treatments for refractory angina.

Research

Dr McNab performed research for three years at Papworth Hospital and Cambridge University into aspects of refractory angina – a severe type of angina that is resistant to normal methods of treatment. He studied the effects of laser channels to the muscle of the heart and the use of spinal cord stimulators, and how these treatments affected the function of the heart in patients with severe refractory angina. He studied and correlated the effects of these treatments on heart muscle function and blood flow by using stress echocardiography with tissue doppler imaging and positron emission tomography (PET) scans.
