Dr Charman has practiced as a full-time NHS Consultant at the Royal Devon and Exeter Foundation Trust since 2005, covering a range of adult and paediatric dermatology clinics and surgery. She carried out her preclinical medical training at Cambridge University, followed by clinical training at Oxford University, and general medical training at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham. Following her specialist dermatology training in Nottingham she completed a three year dermatology research post into atopic eczema, leading a to Doctor of Medicine degree.
She currently leads the Exeter dermatology allergy service and the Exeter teledermatology service. She is actively involved in a number of national research studies and clinical trials.

Dr Charman has a longstanding interest in dermatology research, since completing a three-year Training Fellowship in Health Services Research (1998-2000) funded by the NHS Executive. She has been actively involved in research and clinical trials throughout her training, and has helped to develop dermatology research across the South West as Dermatology Lead for the Peninsula Comprehensive Local Research Network between June 2011 and April 2014.
