All patient journeys at Nuffield Health start with a referral letter from your doctor (or optician) which provides us with important information to ensure that you see the most appropriate consultant as quickly as possible. Once your referral letter has reached the hospital it will be processed by a member of our Out-patient team, it will also be one of these lovely ladies who greet you when you arrive at Out-patients for your initial consultation.

Your appointment letter will be sent in the post to you, along with additional hospital information and any necessary paperwork.

Consultation Appointment Day

On your appointment day, you will enter the hospital via the Out-patients Department entrance, this will bring you to the Out-patients Desk, where you will register and wait for your appointment with the Consultant, a range of hot drinks and reading materials are available in our comfortable lounge area.

During your consultation, it may be deemed necessary for a procedure to be booked here at Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital, if this is the case, your consultant will introduce you to our Customer Service Advisors who will book your procedure for you and if necessary book you a Pre-Admission appointment with one of our fully trained Nurses to check that you are medically fit to undergo surgery.

Please visit our Outpatients Charges page for more information about pricing at Shrewsbury Hospital.

Pre-Assessment

The aim of the pre-assessment is to check that you are medically fit to undergo the required surgery and is also an opportunity for you to ask a nurse any questions you may have about the procedure and your post-operative care. Your appointment will be made by the Customer Service team after you have had your consultation, if possible your pre-assessment may take place during your initial visit but this does depends on the nature and date of your surgery.

Day of Admission

On the day of admission you will arrive via the main entrance of the hospital where you will be welcomed by a member of our reception team. Another member of the team will take you to either your bedroom or our ambulatory care suite depending on the nature of your treatment.

Do remember to check your hospital paperwork for what to bring with you and what time we are expecting you.

You will then be in the hands of our professional and experienced medical team who will guide you through your stay with us.  Should you have any questions about any part of your stay, then please contact our Customer Service team on01743 818926.
