About

Professor Nick Reynolds has been a Consultant Dermatologist in Newcastle for over 20 years. He specialises in the treatment of atopic eczema and psoriasis but is experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of dermatological conditions.

After qualifying at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School in London, he received his dermatology training in Bristol, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA and Newcastle upon Tyne. With support of research fellowships from the British Association of Dermatologists and the Psoriasis Association he spent two and a half years in Ann Arbor, USA. After returning to the UK, he was subsequently awarded a Research Leave Fellowship by the Wellcome Trust.

Professor Reynolds has received a number of honours and awards including: Rudi Cormane Lecture, ESDR, Bordeaux, France (2019); Eugene M Farber Lecture, Society of Investigative Dermatology, Chicago, USA (2019); Rosetrees Inter-Disciplinary Prize Award (2016); Fuell Memorial Lecture, Royal Society of Medicine, London (2013). In 2019, he was selected as a NIHR Senior Investigator.

Research

Professor Reynolds leads a dynamic research department in Newcastle comprising basic scientists and clinical academics.

His current clinical and research interests are focused on inflammatory skin disease, translational and systems biology and the mechanism of action of anti-psoriatic therapies.

He currently chairs the Steering group of and the British Association of Dermatologists Biologic Interventions Register (BADBIR), and is a board member of the International Eczema Council and the European Dermatology Forum. He was the inaugural Chair of UK TREND (Translational Research Network in Dermatology) and past president of the European Society for Dermatological Research (ESDR).
