About

Mr Richards trained at The Royal London Hospital Medical School, qualifying as a doctor in 1992. His Orthopaedic training was on the North-West Thames programme, based at The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. After which he completed two fellowship training posts. The first was at The Mater Hospital, Sydney Australia. The second at the renowned Pulvertaft Hand Unit at The Derby Royal Infirmary.

Mr Richards commenced his Consultant Orthopaedic post in Bournemouth and Poole in September 2004.

Mr Richards's orthopaedic NHS and Private work is focused on his area of specialist clinical interest; Hand, wrist and elbow surgery. Conditions treated include all types of arthritis, nerve compressions (carpal/cubital tunnel syndrome), tendonitis (tennis/golfers elbow, De-Quervain’s tenosynovitis), ligament reconstruction (skiers thumb), Dupuytren’s disease, removal of lumps/bumps, and trauma (fractures and soft tissue/tendon/ligament injuries).

Surgical techniques include joint replacement and arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery.

His philosophy is to practise the most up-to-date Orthopaedic treatment, with an informative approach to patients. In clinic, patients will undergo a consultation with a thorough examination and a full explanation of their Orthopaedic condition. Following this, patients will be in the position to make an informed decision on their treatment options and then have best practice treatment, carried out under strict infection control guidelines. Results of surgical outcome, as well as patient satisfaction surveys on some surgical procedures, will be monitored. Mr Richards has been active in clinical research with publications in many journals including the Lancet and BMJ. He is active in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching/training.
