About

Mr Kotwal is a Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon specialising in Knee Surgery. His practice involves the assessment and management of Knee Arthritis, Sports Knee Injuries and Hamstring tendon avulsion injuries. He has a special interest in  enhanced recovery after knee surgery and joint preservation surgery. He received the BAPIO best innovation award in 2018 for developing and performing the first day case total knee replacement in South Wales.

Mr Kotwal qualified from Bombay University in 1999 following which he completed Postgraduate training in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital which is one of the finest Orthopaedic teaching hospitals in India. He then trained on the All Wales Orthopaedic Training Scheme for 6 years followed by a fellowship at the North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre which is a centre of excellence with international reputation for treatment of sports knee injuries.

He has been appointed as a substantive Consultant at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend in 2016 and has his NHS Clinics at Bridgend and at Neath Port Talbot Hospital.

Mr Kotwal is an Honorary Clinical Teacher at Cardiff University and a member of the All Wales Orthopaedic Training Committee Panel. He is involved in training orthopaedic junior doctors and in medical student teaching. He is also the audit lead for Orthopaedics at Bridgend and strives towards improving patient care and outcome. He has a keen research interest and has presented his work at various national and international meetings. He is also a faculty member on various knee surgery courses.
