About
Mr Westwood has been working as a full time, consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon at Derriford Hospital since May 2008. He trained as a medical student at Southampton University and completed his basic and higher surgical training in Southwest England and a Fellowship in foot and ankle surgery in Bristol.
He treats the full spectrum of foot and ankle conditions from sports injuries to osteoarthritis, from rapid onset to slow deterioration.

Mr Westwood is the head of school of surgery for Health Education Southwest. He has also been awarded the trainer of the year by the Peninsula Trauma and Orthopaedic surgical trainees.
Personal interests
Mr Westwood has a young family and his wife is a GP, so life is busy. He has been windsurfing for over 30 years and keeps his eyes peeled for big swells and strong winds. He cycles regularly, often commuting to work on his bike. He has cycled Lands End to John O’Groats and the Raid Pyrennean in the last few years as well as more local cycling challenges.

Research
Mr Westwood is currently principle investigator in a multicentre randomised controlled trial at Derriford looking at the treatment of fractures of the lower limb. He is also supervising several research projects for surgical trainees.
