About
Kim Hutton qualified from Leeds University in 1983 with a Distinction in Anatomy. After training in General Surgery in Leeds and in London at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, he became a Tutor in Paediatric Surgery at the Leeds General Infirmary. He completed a higher degree for work investigating urothelial cell biology, whilst at the Cancer Research Institute at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds, and was awarded 1st prize for his presentation at the Urological Research Society, January 1993, London. Paediatric Surgical training was completed in Leeds and Manchester, UK and a Pediatric Urology Fellowship was undertaken at the Clark-Morrison Children's Urological Center, Los Angeles, USA 1996.
He started his consultant post in Cardiff in 1997 and has developed services for paediatric urology including paediatric urodynamics, neuropathic bladder, and paediatric renal stone disease.
Mr Hutton was the Lead Clinician for Paediatric Surgery in Cardiff 2006-2016 and has worked to expand the department with appointments of consultant colleagues, nurse practitioners and paediatric continence nurse specialists. He retired from NHS practice in June 2019.
He is keen to maintaining professional standards and has been an Intercollegiate Specialty Board examiner for the FRCS Urology exit examination from 2007 and examines for the Joint Surgical Colleges Fellowship Examination on their international examination programme. Mr Hutton is also involved with question writing and standard setting for the intercollegiate examinations.
