About
Mr Whitwell works as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS trust. His elective work is undertaken at Chapel Allerton Orthopaedic Centre. He also carries out trauma surgery at Leeds General Infirmary.
Mr Whitwell graduated from Leicester University Medical School and the majority of his postgraduate training was in the Yorkshire region. He undertook two years of higher training in hip and knee surgery gaining fellowships at Warwick Hospital and Leeds Chapel Allerton Orthopaedic Centre.
His fellowship training means he is skilled with a variety of hip and knee implant types and surgical techniques. These include cemented and uncemented, ceramic bearings and partial knee replacements. He also has an interest in complex and revision hip and knee surgery.
Mr Whitwell takes great pride in involving the patient in decision making and attention to detail at all points in the patient's treatment pathway.
As a teaching hospital consultant he is a teacher and trainer to junior surgeons both locally and nationally.
He is also the lead clinician for the management of fractured hips in Leeds Hospitals. This is an area of subspecialist interest and an area of specific expertise.
