About

My areas of fellowship-level training are in Ear Surgery, Complex Rhinoplasty & Sinus Surgery and Paediatric ENT surgery. These, in addition to Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (a complication of Snoring), remain my principal areas of interest.

My most senior qualifications are Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, and Fellowship of the European Board of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck surgery (passing the latter with the highest awarded written examination grade of the year).

After my specialist training, I undertook 2 years of surgical fellowship (further training to develop an advanced aspect of practice in a leading international centre), at the Toulouse Hospitals, France and at Guys & St Thomas’ / Evelina Children’s Hospitals.

My specialist training was in London (inc Great Ormond St, UCLH/Royal National ENT Hospital, St Mary’s, Charing Cross, Royal Free and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals). My general surgical training was on the Oxford rotation and my studies were at Kings College, University of London and Caius College, University of Cambridge.

Outside of my usual work, I have enjoyed being a university lecturer and a medical volunteer in warzones and in developing countries. Since entering middle age, all my sporting attempts have become even more inglorious, so fortunately my fondness of French cuisine is kept in check by its absence in our hospitals.

Special interests

I practice in all areas of otolaryngology / ENT surgery for adults and children.

I am a proponent of minimal access surgery (of the ear and sinus) and will offer an external incision-free and local anaesthetic option wherever possible to minimise risk and inconvenience. Examples of special interest to which I apply  such local anaesthetic or more minimal practice include:

  • Ear Surgery: repairing perforated eardrums (tympanoplasty), bones of hearing (ossiculoplasty & stapes surgery/stapedectomy) and all more minor ear procedures
  • Sinus Surgery: Balloon Sinuplasty (a minimally invasive treatment for sinus disease with longer-term benefit in selected cases)
  • Snoring surgery
  • Balloon Sinuplasty (a minimally invasive treatment for sinus disease under local anaesthesia)
  • Coblation tonsillectomy (a technique of tonsillectomy aiming to reduce post-operative pain and bleeding risk)
  • Pinnaplasty/ Otoplasty (cosmetic correction of prominent ears) incisionless in selected cases
  • Rhinoplasty (for cosmesis or better breathing)
