Research

Mr Charles Evans was awarded a University of London MD in 2008 following two years research investigating immune suppression caused by colorectal cancer, its influence upon survival and whether it is reversed by surgical resection. He also studied whether the impairment of tumour immunity following the stress of surgery was reduced in minimally invasive procedures such as laparoscopic surgery.

Charles has continued to have an active role in surgical research with further work accepted for presentation at national and international meetings as well as papers accepted for publication. He regularly reviews papers submitted to surgical journals including the British Journal of Surgery and Colorectal Disease.

As a consultant at UHCW NHS Trust he has built links with the University of Warwick and the University of Birmingham to expand surgical research activities. He has initiated the creation of surgical research fellow posts and has received research grants from the Royal College of Surgeons.
