About

Mr West specialises in the medical and surgical management of urinary stone disease including lithotripsy, laser stone fragmentation, and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) for removal of larger, more complex kidney stones.

He has developed particular expertise in surgery for enlarged prostates, specifically Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP), proven to be more effective than traditional prostate operations for this condition. He led the development of the South Tees HoLEP service in 2010 and has mentored colleagues both locally and nationally in this procedure.

We are delighted that Mr West also now performs a revolutionary new treatment for enlarged prostate at Tees Hospital, this minimally-invasive treatment involves no cutting, heating or removal of prostate tissue. If medication has failed to relieve your symptoms and you don’t want to have major surgery or take pills, this procedure is an effective alternative treatment. An additional benefit of the procedure is the fact it does not have any negative effect on erectile and ejaculatory function. He also sees both female and male patients with general urological problems.
