About

Dr Allan is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Nuffield Health The Manor Hospital, Oxford and was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2015. He graduated from University College London Medical School in 2001 and subsequently trained in Gastroenterology in Oxford and surrounding hospitals. He gained a DPhil in 2013 after research into immune cell signalling in Crohn’s disease. Having gained his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) he undertook a post-CCT fellowship in Advanced Nutrition spending 6 months in Salford Royal at the Intestinal Failure Unit and 6 months in Oxford with the Intestinal Failure team and Small Bowel Transplant team.

Dr Allan is a general gastroenterologist and is available to see all general gastroenterology problems including dyspepsia, diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal pain, microscopic colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, post-cancer treatment symptoms, Coeliac disease, iron deficiency anaemia, macro- and micro-nutrient deficiencies, bile salt malabsorption, pancreatic insufficiency. In addition, he has both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic skills.

Dr Allan has published widely in the fields of both intestinal failure and small bowel transplantation. His research interests include intestinal failure associated liver disease and immunological cell tracking.

Dr Allan currently has research interests in intestinal failure and small bowel transplantation. In particular he is investigating lipid metabolism in intestinal failure associated liver disease, the role of the gut microbiome in health and disease and investigating gut function following a small bowel transplant.
