Dr Martin Ansell

Dr Ansell completed his undergraduate medical training in Nottingham, graduating in 1992. After completing house jobs in Yorkshire he spent time working in A&E and geriatric medicine, before specialising in psychiatry.

He obtained his CCST in general adult and old age psychiatry in 2002 and took up his first substantive consultant post in old age psychiatrist in Salisbury in 2003.

After a couple of years working in old age psychiatry in Wellington New Zealand, he took up his current post in Gloucestershire in the summer of 2006.

As well as his clinical work Dr Ansell  is currently the secondary care lead for Mental Health commissioning for One Gloucestershire, the county’s ICS.

He can be consulted about mental health problems in later life, memory problems and dementia and issues around mental capacity, such as appointing a Lasting Power of Attorney or Testamentary Capacity in relation to drawing up a will.

The One Stop Memory Clinic

As well as his practice at the Nuffield Hospital, Dr Ansell has partnered with the Cobalt Imaging Centre, in Cheltenham, where it is possible to have a clinical assessment and the specialist neuroimaging required to make a diagnosis at the same appointment, usually leading to a diagnosis and treatment recommendations on the same day

While this is convenient for many people, it does require about 3 hours so is not for everybody.
