About

Dr O’Farrell has been practicing medicine for over 20 years. She is a qualified GP but moved to practice in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare 10 years ago. She specialises in Psychosexual Medicine, which entails the diagnosis and treatment of sexual problems using a brief form of therapy to help restore normal sexual function through the use of medication and behavioural techniques.

Sexual health is a significant component of general wellbeing as determined by the World Health Organisation. Difficulties with sex can affect us at any age and are much more common than you might think. A list of problems (not exhaustive) that are commonly helped with Psychosexual Medicine are:

In women: Vagninsmus, painful sex, Genital Pain Disorders, Anorgasmia, difficulty in having smears or genital examinations.

In men: Erectile Dysfunction, Premature Ejaculation, Delayed Ejaculation.

Both: loss of sex drive, aversion to sexual contact, non-standard sexual preferences, issues around sexuality, pornography addiction

Please note that she can help with sexual problems arising from sexual trauma but does not provide counselling specifically to deal with the traumatic event itself.

At present this specialty is not recognised by PMI and so appointments are self-funded.
