About

Dr Karim Saad is a consultant psychiatrist and Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists specialising in the assessment and treatment of mental illness in older adults and in dementia and cognitive impairment, including Younger Onset Dementia. Formerly a full time Consultant Psychiatrist for 21 years at Coventry & Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, a clinical teacher at Warwick Medical School, and regional Clinical Director of the West Midlands Dementia Clinical Network, at NHS England, and after 32 years service in the NHS, Dr Saad now focuses exclusively on private healthcare provision.

Dr Saad runs private outpatient clinics for specialist assessment and treatment of psychiatric illness in older adults including:

  • Depression

  • Bipolar Affective Disorder 
  • Schizophrenia 
  • Delusional Disorder 
  • Addictions 
  • Psychotic Disorders 

Dr Saad provides an assessment and treatment service for suspected or established cognitive impairment and dementia (including Younger Onset Dementia, when symptoms begin during 'working age') as well as for Delirium. Dr Saad assists individuals in designing their own risk reduction plans in Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and Dementia, including a focus on Active Ageing, managing Dementia risk factors and boosting Cognitive Resilience.  

Dr Saad is experienced in the use of the Mental Health Act and the Mental Capacity Act and he welcomes referrals from solicitors for capacity assessments e.g. Lasting Powers of Attorney, Testamentary Capacity and Court of Protection assessments. 

Dr Saad worked at health policy level towards transforming the provision of dementia care in the UK and in Europe, including positively influencing cultural and societal perceptions of dementia. He also set up a multi-award winning community NHS team for younger onset dementia in Coventry, chaired the Midlands regional younger person with dementia forum and founded a dementia awareness in schools inter-generational project in the West Midlands, which contributed to an inter-generational learning pilot across a number of UK pioneer schools linked to the Prime Minister’s Challenge on Dementia.
