Symptoms often come and go and may include:

  • Small blood veins become more visible
  • Burning or stinging
  • Acne like symptoms
  • Red and watering eyes

Over time the redness becomes more permanent and your skin may thicken in areas.

Although the causes for rosacea are unknown there are factors that can trigger the onset of symptoms. Exposure to sunlight is the primary trigger. Others include stress or anxiety, spicy foods, extreme weather conditions (very hot or very cold), strenuous exercise and consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Lifestyle changes to avoid what triggers rosacea may be all that is needed to control the condition. Some oral or cream based medication may also be prescribed. More severe cases may require antibiotics.
