Symptoms of laryngitis can include:

  • Hoarse voice
  • Sore throat
  • Loss of voice

A common cause of laryngitis is a cold or flu. Allergies, smoking and straining your voice can also irritate your voice box.

Typically you can treat your laryngitis at home. You should rest your voice, avoid smoky environments and drink plenty of fluids. If your symptoms do not ease after 3 weeks or you develop a fever see your GP.

You may be referred to an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist. Our experienced ENT consultants diagnose and treat laryngitis in a hospital near you.
