Patients sometimes experience periods of pain for a few days or weeks. It is thought that stress can trigger these flare-ups.

The cause of CRPS is unknown but injuries such as a cut, burn, sprain or fracture seem to bring on increased symptoms lasting longer than would be normal after these injuries. In some cases pain may spread to another area of the effected limb or other areas of your body.

You should see your GP if you are experiencing long-term pain. Tests to rule out other conditions may be recommended. If CRPS is confirmed you may be referred to a pain management specialist. Our experienced consultants can advise you on managing your CRPS and recommend medication to help control your symptoms. You may also benefit from psychological support.
