What is this benefit?

  • It provides Life Assurance cover for employees for death in service, held under Trust and currently insured with Aviva
  • Your level of cover depends on whether you are in the pension plan or not:

  • Contributing to pension plan

    • 3x annual earnings for members of the Nuffield Health Retirement Savings Plan contributing 6% or more
    • If you reduce your level of contributions below 6%, your level of cover will reduce

    If you are not contributing to pension plan

    • 1x annual earnings (with a minimum benefit of £6,000)

How do I apply?

  • Cover is provided automatically so you don’t need to do anything to join the scheme, however all employees are encouraged to complete and return the Beneficiary Nomination (Expression of Wish Form)
  • The form is for you to express your wishes in respect of whom you would like to benefit from your life assurance cover in the event of your death. It relates only to this benefit and is not linked to the Nuffield Health Retirement Savings Plan.

If I have an AVIVA pension, do I need to complete another form?

  • If you are a member of the Nuffield Health Retirement Savings Plan, please ensure you also complete the Aviva Expression of Wish form
  • The Aviva form will provide a record of your wishes for the management of your pension fund in the event of your death – this can be found on: My Money (avivamymoney.co.uk).

Useful Information

  • Employees will not be covered by the policy beyond their 75th birthday
  • The Trustees will decide where the Life Assurance benefits will be paid, and the Beneficiary Nomination Form will provide guidance as to your wishes in the event of your death in service.
