Nuffield Health partners with Amateur Swimming Association

Not-for-profit healthcare organisation to offer ASA services in fitness and wellbeing centres nationwide.

Nuffield Health and the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) have today announced an on-going partnership to deliver ASA services at Nuffield Health Gyms across the country. Nuffield Health is the only national health and wellbeing provider to have signed a partnership with the swimming body.

Following the ASA's recent School Swimming Census which discovered that 45% of children aged between seven and 11-years old  are unable to swim 25 metres unaided, the partnership will support their calls to help more primary-school aged children learn to swim in 2015. Nuffield Health aims to assist this by teaching 10,000 children to swim through the ASA Learn to Swim programme at its sites in 2015. Available to members and non-members, lessons will be taught with the favourable ratio of one teacher to six children.

The partnership will provide a uniform approach which will see the ASA swim-school programme rolled out across all Nuffield Health centres over the year, along with adult swimming lessons. Nuffield Health will also introduce Swimfit, the ASA’s aqua fitness class, to all of its centres in January.

The ASA Learn to Swim pathway is designed to teach children of any age to swim through its pathway programme of levels one to seven - starting with an introduction to water for babies, all the way through to swimming 100m unaided. There are also classes beyond these levels for those pupils wishing to continue swimming training or to hone a specific discipline, and swimming lessons for adults.

Sean McBurney, Nuffield Health National Group Exercise and Swim Manager, comments:

"This partnership enables Nuffield Health to provide both members and non-members with access to the very best swim school facilities, with a standardised approach at all of our centres. This is a new direction for Nuffield Health and we are thrilled to provide a kite marked service at our swim schools nationwide.

"We pride ourselves on being able to provide our members with a varied range of fitness classes and are extremely excited to be able to introduce refreshing new class, Swimfit, to our centres in January – a class which we are certain will be extremely popular."

Jon Glenn, Head of Learn to Swim at the ASA comments:

"Working with Nuffield Health to offer swimming lessons across the country is something which we are extremely excited about. We are dedicated to ensuring more children have the opportunity to learn to swim and are delighted that Nuffield Health is supporting this by making the Learn to Swim pathway available to non-members as well as members.

"Swimming is a great way for people to get fit and we look forward to working together to provide the best services to help people of all ages learn to swim and stay healthy through swimming."
