We understand that the desire to have a child can be overwhelming. The discovery of a fertility problem can be the beginning of a challenging time in your life, both emotionally and physically. We currently have specialist assisted conception services (ACS) in our hospitals at Brentwood, Glasgow and Woking.

Each person has a unique reaction to infertility. It’s an emotional roller coaster and you may have feelings that range from disappointment and frustration to hope and excitement. It’s understandable. But these feelings can be unpredictable and upsetting, and can even cause tension in relationships. You may need help in coping with them.
We will take care of your overall wellbeing, as we help you in your efforts to start a family. We’ll provide you with information about the stages of your treatment and help you to make decisions. We’ll address any concerns you may have and support you every step of the way. And we have independent counsellors, who will be there for you, to help you through the whole process. Even before you decide, you can always come in to see the facilities and chat to a specially trained nurse. We see this as part of helping you reach the right decision for you, so it’s informal and free of charge.
You’re in good hands
While there are no guarantees, we will do everything possible to help you conceive a child. Our assisted conception services are within full service hospitals. They offer all fertility treatments and, with over 25 years' experience, we’ve helped over 6,500 children come into the world - an enviable record that we’re very proud of.
We’d like to think our success is based on creating a caring environment in the hospital. Walk through the door and you’ll find the atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant. And our people are selected for their commitment to our caring philosophy, as well as their expertise. Our nurses, for example, take the time to get to know you. To them, you’re a person, not a patient, and we’re frequently told what a difference that makes.
We are able to offer all the major treatments including IVF, ICSI, and embryo freezing. Egg donation and egg sharing are available as well as treatments like ovulation induction and intrauterine insemination (IUI).
Getting in touch with us
You can contact us directly, or choose to ask your GP to refer you to us. If we do receive a referral, we will get in touch with you to make an appointment. We’ll then send you information that will help you get ready for the consultation.
Your first consultation
This is when you’ll first meet your consultant. You’ll find out about the treatments available and your consultant will help you decide on a programme. Appointments for tests will also be made. These can include tests on blood, urine and sperm, which are needed to see if the treatment chosen is right for you. If you want to go ahead, you'll meet one of our specially trained fertility nurses to discuss any questions you may have and to provide you with the information needed to make your journey through treatment easier.
As success rates do vary, we’ll give you up-to-date information at this time. The possibility of treatment not being successful can be very stressful. So the next step will involve meeting a counsellor who can discuss this with you.
Meeting your counsellor
Fertility treatment can be demanding and intrusive, so it’s best to know what lies ahead. One of our dedicated counsellors can help. At your appointment the counsellor will discuss your feelings regarding your proposed treatment.
The HFEA requires that a counsellor sees donors, recipients and those who are having a procedure using a surrogate.
Starting your treatment
This is the appointment to prepare you for your fertility treatment. We’ll discuss how best to fit your treatment in with your working life and the medication you may need to take. We’ll put together a treatment plan that’s specific to you. Then we’ll agree a date to start. We’ll ask you to sign consent forms and give you written notes explaining your treatment and just what to expect at each stage.
Reviewing your treatment
After your treatment, we will offer a consultation to assess how everything went. This appointment is helpful for planning any future care for you.

** Where possible, we promise to assist you to receive any follow up advice, treatment or care that is clinically required from your Consultant for as long as you may require it. If a prosthesis is used as part of your treatment this is guaranteed for the manufacturer’s official lifetime of that prosthesis. “Clinically required” indicates where further intervention and/or monitoring of a patient’s condition is deemed necessary as a direct result of surgical intervention.
