The gastric balloon is designed to be a short term solution to help you lose weight without invasive surgery, and is removed after six months.  It can help you reduce your food intake, and adopt more easily the eating and life style changes required for you to continue to lose weight, and improve your health. Unlike gastric bands, patients with a Body Mass Index (BMI) less than 35, can undergo this procedure.

Gastric banding is a highly effective weight loss surgical procedure that limits how much food you can eat. Also known as lap banding, the operation helps overweight people achieve substantial and long-term weight loss. You may be eligible for surgery if your BMI (body mass index) of over 40, or if it is over 35 and you have other medical conditions.
