Walk-In Walk-Out Varicose Vein treatments in Glasgow
Varicose veins or venous reflux disease is a common problem affecting large numbers of women and men. Many of those affected struggle with tired legs, severe swelling, throbbing pain, unsightly and swollen and ropey veins. They can also have other consequences such as bleeding, skin irritation and ulceration.
Varicose veins occur in the superficial veins in the leg. These veins have a system of valves which should ensure that the blood runs from the legs back up to the heart. Varicose veins occur when these valves fail, allowing blood to run back down into the veins in the leg, damming up in these veins and causing them to dilate and become varicose.
There are a number of factors which can contribute to developing venous reflux disease; if family or siblings have developed them, being overweight, lifestyle, or going through mulitple pregnancies. People who are particularly active or spend a lot of time standing such as teachers, waitresses, nurses and other service staff have an increased risk due to more pressure being put on their legs, as do those that carry out extensive heavy lifting.
Once venous reflux disease has appeared it never goes away by itself. It is a progressive condition that can only worsen unless treated. However the introduction of minimally invasive techniques such as VNUS which can be carried out under local anaesthetic to treat varicose veins means treatment is both quicker and more effective than it’s ever been.
Benefits to new VNUS procedures include:
- It can be carried out as an outpatient procedure
- It is less painful than other methods with a quick recovery time
- It is minimally invasive so there is little to no scaring.
