The Assisted Conception Unit (the unit) at Nuffield Health’s Glasgow Hospital, first opened in 1985. This small department within the main acute hospital,  was the first fertility unit within the independent sector in Scotland.

Glasgow's premier centre for reproductive medicine offers the following services at our unit:

    * Fertility MOT
    * In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF treatment)
    * Sperm donation
    * Egg donation
    * Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
    * Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI)
    * Ovarian screening
    * Ovulation Induction

From the day it opened, the unit  provided fertility services in Scotland for patients who either did not meet the NHS criteria for treatment or who sought an additional range of treatment options to those available on the NHS.

When the unit was founded, Dr Bobby Low headed the team of consultants and, together with the  Embryologists and Nurses, set up a unit providing a range of treatments from first line management of fertility to more advanced treatments such as IVF, Frozen Embryo Transfers and the use of donor sperm. We are delighted to have Dr Low and our original consultants, Dr Conway and Dr Haxton still working with us in the team. Collectively these consultants have over 75 years of fertility experience. In 2007 the team celebrated it’s 21st birthday along with Louise Marshall the first baby born within the unit.

Through 24 Years of providing fertility care, we have helped thousands of couples fulfil their desire to have a child. In many cases, we have helped to create families as some of the couples have been successful on more than one occasion whilst others have had twins and, in the early days, some have even had triplets. Our dedicated team could, through the latest drug protocols and technology, also help you achieve a successful outcome.

Recently the HFEA (Human Fertility and Embryology Authority) required fertility units to upgrade their laboratory facilities to meet the E.U. Cell and Tissue Directive criteria. Our unit was no exception and, last year we completed a £500,000 refurbishment and upgrade project. We are now very proud of our state-of-the-art Laboratory and Theatre which together help us provide the best scientific and clinical treatment to give you the best possible chance of achieving a successful pregnancy.

For your comfort and privacy, the individual bedrooms with en-suite facilities and plasma TV’s have a contemporary feel, giving a relaxed ambiance. Our dedicated specialist nurses collectively have over 45 years of experience and. they will assist you through your treatment plan, giving care, advice and support along the way.

Our Embryology team are all highly skilled scientists who handle your gametes with the utmost care and respect and help nurture your embryos through their first stages of development.

As a team we will ensure that your care will be individually tailored to your requirements. Our experienced Consultants, Nurses, Embryologists and Counsellor will endeavour to make your experience a pleasant and successful one.

We are situated in Nuffield Health’s Glasgow Hospital where all of the hospital’s facilities and emergency care are available should you require them.
