About
David graduated with honours from the Medical College of St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London in 1991. Having joined the Royal Air Force, his basic surgical training was undertaken in London, at RAF Halton and at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. He achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1996.
Higher specialist training in Orthopaedics took David through registrar placements in Plymouth, Truro, Oxford (Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and John Radcliffe Hospital) and Middlesbrough.
In addition, David spent six months as a DePuy Fellow at the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group in Australia, where he further developed skills as a joint replacement surgeon and learnt the technique of hip resurfacing. He completed his final fellowship examinations and was awarded FRCS (Tr & Orth).
David Stitson works alongside Huw David, Simon Coleridge and Karl Trimble in a branded partnership named VITA Orthopaedics, who work exclusively out of Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital.
David provides a full range of hip & knee replacement solutions including partial, total and revision procedures.
Other interests
David is recognised as a specialist in lower limb joint replacement and revision joint replacement surgery. His particular interest and expertise is in hip replacement in young adults where he uses CT based planning and a wide range of implants and techniques to achieve individual patient solutions. The aim in each case is accurate reconstruction to provide maximal functional recovery. He is also expert in hip resurfacing and in revision hip replacement.
