Profile:

Ian Laidlaw is an experienced Surgeon specialising in Breast Diseases working as a Consultant in Surrey for nearly 20 years. He first trained in Newcastle-upon-Tyne then Manchester, where he undertook research at the Christie Hospital and Paterson Institute in breast diseases and then his higher training in specialist surgical oncology and plastic surgery was at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London where he was a Lecturer working with Professor Michael Baum.

He has a special interest in Breast Cancer and Oncoplastic Surgery – choosing the plastic surgical procedures necessary to get the best possible aesthetic outcome after cancer surgery requires, patience, time with the patient, experience and a first class team. Techniques he is familiar with - such as breast reduction, liposuction, lipofilling, breast augmentation, the use of implants and expanders as well as complex tissue transfer techniques – allow the team to offer a wide range of choice for pure aesthetic surgery and excellent choices for adjustment surgery and reconstructive procedures during cancer treatment.

From your first visit, the team will work with you closely, explaining the procedure in which you are interested, answering your questions, performing your surgery and overseeing your recovery.

Mr Laidlaw is the Lead Clinician directing the development and quality of cancer services in a large local Cancer Unit. With his Colleagues he constantly strives to deliver high quality services by improving the education of the whole team and by ensuring the unit has access to the best investigations and treatment protocols available.

Other interests:

His professional interest in teaching has led him to be a facilitator for the National Programme teaching communication skills to other Consultants involved in cancer care.

Personal interests:

He plays guitar and enjoys cooking. He has a family with whom he enjoys a wide variety of outdoor pursuits, especially dinghy sailing and cycling.
