About

I have worked in Neurology since 1993, studying for my MD Thesis (on Diabetic Neuropathy, 1995). I then undertook the modern curriculum-based training in Southampton to fully qualify for my CCST in 1999. I was a Consultant Neurologist in Southend & at the Royal London Hospital for 3 years before moving to Guildford, Surrey in 2002, with Honorary Consultant status at St George’s Hospital Neuroscience Unit.

Throughout my whole time as a Consultant, I have been a departmental Lead. Active learning & staying up to date has been a core ethos so I have been very proactive in training junior doctors & medical students, as a personally bestowed Honorary Senior Lecturer at The Royal London & since 2014 Educational Supervisor for Neurology in the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Deanery. I served 6 years on the National Association of British Neurologists Services & Standards Committee, then 6 years on the Epilepsy Special Interest Group, and since then it’s Quality Committee, my belief being that Best Care is only possible by maintaining contemporaneous knowledge for Neurology and modern process.

However, I hold by old-fashioned clinical values & experience to apply current skills, listening to the detail individuals share during consultations so as to optimally action state-of-the-art tests & treatments, to try one’s hardest to Get It Right clinically the First Time. And allowing patients time is usually pivotal, to understand them as a whole & support them. I have broad experience in general neurology with high exposure to acute care and long-term conditions leading on MS, epilepsy and motor neuron disease but I can all reflect upon many years seeing rare cases & presentations.
