About
Mr Summi Abdul is a Consultant who specialises in gynaecological cancer. He has particular expertise in keyhole (minimally invasive) and robotic surgery. He works at the Royal Derby Hospital and is widely recognised for his work in treating women with gynaecological cancers.
As well as cancer care, Mr Abdul treats a wide range of non‑cancer (benign) gynaecological conditions. These include painful or heavy periods, ovarian cysts, pain during intercourse, bleeding after intercourse and vulval conditions. He is also experienced in colposcopy (a detailed examination of the cervix).
Mr Abdul is internationally recognised for his expertise in keyhole hysterectomy and is a leading specialist in this area.
He qualified in 1995 from the University of Leeds. He then trained in several leading hospitals, including centres in Leeds, Oxford, Bradford, Sheffield and Derby. This wide experience has helped him develop advanced skills in both gynaecology and obstetrics.
In 2006, he completed his specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and gained additional subspecialist accreditation in gynaecological oncology. He was then appointed as a Consultant.
Mr Abdul has a strong interest in keyhole surgery and is passionate about teaching. He trains surgeons both in the UK and internationally and is the Founder and Director of the DELTA Centre.
