Many women find their sense of self-esteem is improved through improving the shape or size of their breasts. This could be to enhance body contour or reconstruct breasts after surgery or injury. Breast implants are a long-term solution but they may need replacing after about 15 years or so.
Breast implants are made from a silicone capsule filled with either a saline (salt water) solution or liquid silicone - your Specialist will discuss the best option with you. The implants are surgically inserted into the breast area through a small cut, which will leave a small scar after being sewn up. It is possible for breast implants to leak (although this is rare), but if this happens, the implant will have to be removed and replaced.
The procedure usually requires a general anaesthetic, and you should expect to stay in hospital overnight depending on the advice of your Specialist.
