Shadow Health Secretary opens Fitness & Wellbeing Centre
Andrew Lansley, the Shadow Secretary of State for Health, today (Monday 30 March) officially opened Nuffield Health’s new Fitness & Wellbeing Centre in Nottingham.
The Centre, on Plains Road in Mapperley, is billed as the ‘future of health clubs’. It provides a holistic and joined up approach to managing health and wellbeing by offering an innovative combination of medical services, health and fitness facilities, complemented by highly qualified staff, that have never before been available at a chain of health clubs.
The Centre houses a fully equipped gym, pool and spa facilities, alongside a medical clinic with an on-site GP, Nuffield Health physiotherapists, Nuffield Health physiologists and a Nuffield Health nutritionist.
Launched by Nuffield Health — the UK’s largest healthcare Charity and a not-for-profit organisation which helps millions of people take care of their health through its hospital and wellbeing network—the Centre is the only place in Nottingham where local people have medical, healthcare and fitness facilities available under one roof.
In addition to the fantastic medical, fitness and leisure facilities, the Centre also offers a comprehensive 45 – 60 minute health assessment free of charge to all Clients. The assessment, known as the Vi1, measures body mass index, aerobic fitness, resting heart rate, blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels. Clients can then receive a free follow-up assessment (the Vi4) three months later so they can track their progress.
Nuffield Health, has invested over £3million and 5 months developing the Nottingham Centre, which employs over 20 people. As a not-for-profit organisation, without shareholders, Nuffield Health invests all funds into improving peoples’ health.
Nuffield Health works with local authorities and NHS Primary Care Trusts across the country and we hope health screening and physiotherapy will become available across the wider community with local discussions.
Andrew Lansley said: “It’s a real privilege to open Nottingham’s new Nuffield Health Fitness & Wellbeing Centre. Fitness and wellbeing play a vital role in preventing poor health outcomes and general self-esteem. I look forward to hearing about the positive impact that this Centre will have on the community”
David Mobbs, Group Chief Executive, Nuffield Health said: “The opening today of Nottingham is another concrete step on the journey towards our vision of a joined up approach to health and wellbeing.”
