Nuffield Health appoints KP Doyle as Chief Executive of Nuffield Proactive Health and Cannons

Nuffield Health, the UK’s largest healthcare charity, has appointed KP Doyle as Chief Executive of the combined operations of Nuffield Proactive Health and Cannons Health & Fitness.

Cannons is one of the best-known health club groups on the high street, with over 52 commercial clubs and 14 local authority sites under contract. Nuffield Proactive Health is the UK's leading expert in employee health, vitality and wellness, providing services to over 3,000 corporate clients and 200,000 employees annually.

The two businesses are already under shared management and will be united under the Nuffield Health brand later this year.

KP Doyle was a founder director of Sona Group, which was bought by Nuffield Health in 2005. He was formerly Chief Financial Officer of Nuffield Proactive Health and played a major role in the acquisition of Cannons at the end of 2007.

KP takes over the role of Chief Executive from Chris Jessop.

KP has been instrumental in laying the foundations of the future combined business. He integrated health screening, primary care and physiotherapy services into Nuffield Proactive Health and put in place consistent clinical governance, quality assurance and operational processes.

Nuffield Health was unveiled as the new name for Nuffield Hospitals earlier in the summer, following the acquisition of Cannons.

The new name reflects the group’s ambition to unite services to improve and maintain health, to help people to understand their personal health risks and to provide excellent diagnosis and treatment when it’s needed.

“Until now there has been very little connection between health and fitness services on the one hand, and diagnosis and treatment of problems on the other,” said KP Doyle. “Nobody has been able to give the public a joined-up approach to proactively managing their health. We’re aiming to change that.

“As a not for profit organisation we have a unique opportunity to take a new and exciting approach to healthcare, creating services which are rooted in what consumers tell us they need and how they want to take control over their health. We can deliver that on the high street or the workplace, so it’s easier for people to get involved.”

Nuffield Health’s combined fitness and wellbeing businesses include:

• 52 health clubs, currently trading as Cannons

• 11 leisure centres and other facilities run for local authorities, mainly under the Courtney’s brand

• More than 100 client-site health and fitness facilities providing services for employees of large and medium-sized businesses

• 4 medical centres, providing health & wellbeing assessments

• More than 400 accredited physiotherapy clinics in the national Fusion network
