64-Slice CT Scanner Installed at Nuffield Health Hospital Cambridge

An advanced CT scanner capable of taking photographic quality images inside the body has been installed at the Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital in Trumpington Road.

The scanner is the latest development in a two-year, £18 million programme of investment at the hospital which is part of the charity, Nuffield Health.

"This is a 64-slice CT scanner capable of taking images very quickly and in such detail that it allows consultant radiologists to make an accurate and confident diagnosis," said Lindsey Carver, Southern Regional Imaging Manager for Nuffield Health Diagnostics.

"This means that the scan is more easily tolerated by the patient because most of the images can be obtained in a single breath-hold. It is good news for patients and their GPs".

CT (computerised tomography) is a painless technology which delivers a faster, more precise diagnosis  of different forms of cancer, vascular and heart disease and conditions that affect many other parts of the body including the brain, lungs, and other organs.

Earlier this year, the Hospital re-opened the doors of its newly refurbished and upgraded oncology unit. The unit provide’s state-of-the-art medical treatment and care for around 20 cancer patients a day in modern, clean and comfortable surroundings.
