Experience

Mr Yelland received his MB BS from the University of London (St. George's Hospital) in 1986, and trained in the highly regarded breast reconstructive units of St. George's Hospital, The Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford and Royal Marsden Hospitals in London and Sutton.

He spent 1990 - 1991 at St. George's Hospital Medical School and Charing Cross Hospital Medical School investgiating the role of growth factors in breast cancer.  As a result of this work he was awarded a Master of Surgery degree from the University of London. 

In 1991 he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and in 2001 a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Pursuing his interest in cosmetic surgery and breast reconstruction, Mr Yelland travelled to Atlanta, Georgia in the USA to study at Emory University, who's plastic and Reconstructive unit is known for its pioneering efforts in breast reconstruction and new endoscopic plastic surgical techniques.

Today Mr Yelland is a Consultant in Breast Cancer, Reconstructive & Cosmetic Surgery at Brighton & Sussex University Hospital NHS Trust, with a special interest in cosmetic and related onco-plastic procedures, and a highly regarded cosmetic surgeon.

Research

Mr Yelland is actively engaged in research and a sample of papers, presentations and posters are presented below.  This year he also advised PD James with regards to his recent book.

The Use of Neo-Adjuvant CMF Chemotherapy to Avoid Mastectomy.  European Journal of Surgical Oncology.

The Use of the latissimus dorsi musculocutaneous flap for immediate correction of the deformity resulting from breast conservation therapy.  British Journal of Plastic Surgery.

Diagnosing Breast Carcinoma in Young Women.  British Medical Journal.

Correlation of size and circumferential margin using instant specimen radiography system (Faxitron) in breast conserving cancer surgery with histology.  Is it worthwhile?  BASO Annual Conference
