Experience
Knee surgery has been my special interest as a Consultant since 1993. I treat patients of all age groups and I have carried out over 5000 arthroscopies and 1000 knee replacements.
Research
I am interested in the outcomes of surgical procedures to develop higher quality care and have researched the least destructive approaches to replace damaged parts of the knee joint such as the Oxford partial knee replacement and the Avon patellofemoral arthroplasty. I have also carried out much research on bone healing, ligament reconstruction and cartilage degeneration.
OUTCOMES: The national average for knee replacement is an Oxford knee score (OKS) of 35/48 (48 being the best possible outcome). Our audited outcome for the Oxford partial knee is 41/48, the Avon partial knee 39/48, and for the total knee 38/48. American Knee Society (AKS and AFS) ratings show Oxford knee replacements AKS 93/100, AFS 84/100. Avon knee AKS 95/100, AFS 85/100.
