Experience
Mr van Liefland graduated from the internationally orientated medical school of Leiden, the Netherlands. Following a year of research for his MD at the University of Bonn in Germany, he started his surgical training in the UK. He was awarded a Masters of Science Degree from the University of Cardiff in the field of Biomechanics and Engineering in Orthopaedic Surgery. He is regularly involved in teaching future surgeons and GP’s and is studying for a Medical Education Degree himself.
After two posts in Plastic and Hand Surgery he started his orthopaedic specialty training with posts in Cardiff, Swansea and North Wales, followed by two years on the Oswestry Rotation gaining the desired training in his chosen field of interest of Upper Limb Surgery. This was supplemented with visits to the Wrightington Upper Limb Unit and the Pulvertaft Hand Unit in Derby.
He started as a Consultant Upper Limb Surgeon at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry in 2007 and is based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital to provide general orthopaedic and specialist upper limb trauma care.
